My name is Don Whiting and this site I consider to be the best part of my life's work. I was born in 1953 to parents who are/were prescription drug addicts who were themselves born to alcoholic parents. In other words, the nest was full of addictions from parents to grand parents, uncles to aunts to cousins, sisters to in-laws, my first two wives to all of our friends and acquaintances. The generational addicted surrounded by like-minded people. What a mess!

In my life I became chemically addicted at the age of 14 and addicted to relationships by age 18, and sex by age 20. My house of cards came tumbling down completely in 1987 at the age of 34 and in February of 1988 I did the rehab stretch. I was an addicted hard head for the 20 years that I used chemicals and people. Now I'm just a hard head.

As a kid I flunked my way through grammer school and high school, but it wasn't my fault. I blew through two marriages, but it wasn't my fault. I had numerous car wrecks, but it wasn't my fault. I was arrested many times, but it wasn't my fault. I was always in trouble at work, but it wasn't my fault. I lost everything I had twice, but it wasn't my fault. People avoided me, but they didn't understand me. No one would loan me money, and that wasn't my fault. Couldn't be me.

You see, when a person is addicted....nothing is their fault. It has to be other people or some unique circumstances. The weather. The job, the wife or even the dog.

But it was. I did it and this site is my story and my attempt to help others since I began recovery in 1988, went back to school and got a firm handle on what addiction is and what it is not. It is built under the premise of reasoning through problems and following in the footsteps of others who have found a better life away from addiction and never ending troubles.

This site is free, confidential and as non-threatening an atmosphere as simply reading a book. I will answer questions or interact if requested to do so. But I do NOT collect e-mail addresses or send out mailings. I will counsel to the extent of my experience or try to locate resources for you.
