9-11 Revisited
Five Years Later

We all came together as a people united to morn the loss of our murdered people five years ago for many months.  We  honored the live and dead heroes, the rescuers and the situational heroes. We even became more friendly with each other and courteous many of us flew flags from our vehicles or attached stickers and for a short time Americans became fused as one. It was a proud post script to a horrible assault to the senses of the American people that brought us a wide range of genuine emotion.

As we honor our dead yearly we say we must never forget as a slogan as if any American alive that day could forget any of it any more than us older folks would forget John F. Kennedy or Lee Harvey Oswald or the fall of Saigon or the shooting of Ronald Reagan these things burn into a person's mind and no slogan necessary you WILL always remember where you were and what you were doing whether you were a child, an onlooker or a some how participant. Impossible to ever forget. Save the slogans.

What we have forgotten though is that our fellow citizens are still our countrymen and we are a family still albeit dysfunctional in nature as we have lost that oneness of civility born of that fateful day 09-11-2001 and we have reverted backwards to get as get can not learning much of anything useful and lasting from the experience or even realizing that WE ARE AT WAR and as such should conduct ourselves in a manner consistent with a population that plans on survival. We are not good at that at all.

During the Second World War folks conserved energy and food and financial resources but not enough and the drag of the war forced rationing of meat and other food stuffs, rubber for tires,  gasoline, diesel, fuel oil and even metals. People grew Victory Gardens to supplement their rationed food and many folks had before rationing stored away extra goods knowing the worst could happen. Seems today most folks store about three cans of something and call that enough even though Katrina proved that three cans aint dick when dealing with FEMA you'll starve before the calvary arrives.

As a population I see very little that tells me we are at war and are prepared for any kind of an attack of size against our population nor do I see any groundswell of people even prepared for interest rate hikes and this cognitive dissonance is a deadly "Eyes Wide Shut" mode of living that tells me that no matter what Americans say they are concerned about their inaction and inattention will one day deliver many of them to the gates of Hell so to speak.

As a population as soon as the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates in 2002 Americans were off to the races seeing how many consumer goods they could pile in and around their homes or how big their homes could become and just how deep they could go into debt. Sound real to you?

Did Americans pile away any money in case gas became a problem due to war issues? Did they plan on any deficit in energy whether by war or storm? Did Americans store emergency supplies to keep their families safe and fed if by chance a terrorist attack took out supply chains of any kind? The resounding answer is no. The why of it I cannot fathom but I think it has something to do with the fact that a new hot tub, pool, vacation, vehicle etc etc etc is a whole lot more fun than planning for what war can deliver to people.

The wicked part of this whole bag of BS living is that should anything happen 98% of Americans will cry like babies swearing they were blindsided just like they cried when the tech stocks went mad and crashed and just like folks cry today from peak oil circumstances and war premiums on oil. The evidence was there long before the deed occured just like the evidence is and was out there that the interest rates folks loved so much were EMERGENCY RATES and why folks don't get that I simply dunno. But make good and sound use of that gift few people did and now as we continue with the War on Terror most folks will do so in a vastly weakened state now unable to prepare and protect self and family.

They call things like I'm talking about personal responsaibility. Man is that two words people run from these days!

What has ALL of this got to do with a website for addiction?
George Bush called it. He didn't go far enough though. We are addicted to oil. We are addicted to credit. We are addicted to comfort through consumer goods and we are addicted to not changing the way we do things no matter what. Now that is some serious addiction.

So What Did 9-11-2001 Really Teach Americans?

Post Script To The Weasels Who Disagreed;

A can of something to share with a friend,
A bottle of water to help a thirst mend,

Some wood some heat when the power goes out
or a candle some light just to move about,
Some blankets so warm when folks are cold,
An extra bed a cot and with it the gratitude unfolds.
These things we all should do and have on hand instead of
looking hard at our fellow man.
If we do not value our own safety we value none other
and the heroes of 9-11 could not be your brothers.

These humans they choked back their grief and their sorrow,
They clawed at debris and sweated their blood while swallowing smoke, filth and even disease.
They labored beyond tired to the point of collapse and returned daily
for more of the same not looking for thanks.
Heroes one and all these American saviors, fighting for bodies of people
who were mostly strangers.

Each of us owes these fine people a debt of preparing our country not
ignoring the threats. We can honor them by a change of hearts and minds so
that we take some of that load upon ourselves-- so that spouse and family
neighbor or friend will not meet their maker in an untimely tragic end.

We cannot know the where  the when terror goes, but we can be there as family
as friends and lighten the load. To do this we best honor our brave heroes
and dead while doing nothing spits on the their heads.

I am very sorry that I feel the way I do but it is born of the cowardice I saw after 9-11 and the inaction I see today.

People have died for others by the thousands on far away battlefields and buried in the ruins of the airliners and all of the buildings of 9-11 and each died believing they were a free people of fighting for the notion of freedom while many of their countrymen and woman were willing to sell anything to protect their worthless asses and in doing so were willing to sign away the rights of the very freedom fighters and the families of the first to die in effect spitting on the first victims.

It is sickening the Judas mentality that will do nothing to buck up and protect themselves and extend some faith, courage and honor while they gladly send others out to die for them. Makes you want to puke.

These same folks will tell you they believe in God. God is courage and the Devil is what cowardice smells of.  Doubt and sellout.  Believe in God my ass! Go crawl back in a hole.

America should be more than slogans and cute chain e-mails. Honoring the dead and living, the heroes and the fighters is best done by showing class and courage, faith and trust. It is best done by guarding the home front one home at a time and having the decency to respect and cherish the gifts of freedom instead of destroying what millions have died for since the beginning of America.
