America The Beautiful!
Seems everytime I flip on the tube, pop open a magazine or go online I see the same crap staring me in the face day after day after day. You know what I'm talking about those incessant ads for zoloft, prozac, viagra, prevacid, beer, credit, refinancing and car leases, credit fixing companies and payday loan joints.
Then there are the news reports and articles designed to scare the pants off of people. If you eat this you die. If you smoke this you die a bad person. If you are X amount overweight you are at risk for a laundry list of horrible things and besides that you are an unlovable pig! If you are too skinny your bones will break too easy. If you drink milk it's bad. No! It's good. Eat this. Eat that. Don't eat that....no, we were wrong, eat it now. Drink bottled water. No, don't drink that brand it has cow feces in it. Sugar is good. Sugar is bad. Carbs will kill you and meat is good even if it's rancid and wormy it's better than those awful carbs.
Oh God save me from America! America the beautiful my ass! What's so beautiful about information overload and a bunch of completely insane morons controlling everything we see, hear and try to digest every waking moment of our now media miserable lives? Face it! The media tells outright lies about our financial markets every single day. If they actually did their digging journalistic jobs instead of recycled junk science being thrown at us we would get actual information that might help us avoid dishonest people before they strike and not after the likes of a Kenneth Lay pulls a fast one. How else does one explain the popularity of Alan Greenspan in America. Here's a man that sold himself out and few speak of it and certainly not the mainstream media.
America the beautiful? This country loves their alcohol high even as every 30 minutes some drinker somewhere in America crashes their vehicle. They love their pot. They love their meth and their ecstasy. Americans love prescriptions for zoloft, prozac and any other happy drug that helps them to not deal with the world that is reality. Americans love easy credit like home refinancing so they can put on the dog and pretend they are rich. They love to lease what they cannot afford to buy and they spend themselves right down to the last vestige of sanity and then look for more ways to still buy even more. And some people call this addiction. Well I don't. I call it an unwillingness to deal with themselves and others honestly as they are transforming themselves into zombies that no longer think about what they do and why they do it and who it impacts and how and that includes their children
In that last line I think I just described immaturity and selfishness. Last I checked, immaturity and selfishness were not symptoms of any addiction but merely symptoms of not growing up. And why don't people grow up is a very good question I've been trying to figure out all of my working life. Americans grow tall, bald, gray, wrinkled and not wise by and large. They seem to avoid frank discussions and seem to reward the brown noser and even the feather bedder rather than the person who finds problems and tries to fix those problems. They avoid controversy if it appears that a fleck of it could get on them. They avoid responsibility unless they are pointing away from themselves and rarely do we hear the words "I was wrong." Even our own President cannot utter those three simple words. No wonder he's popular. He's a symptom of American delusion and thinking.
Kerry scores high on the delusional scale as well. In fact, Americans have no real choices in this our delusional world. We're screwed.
America the beautiful. More like, Americans are real beauties! While Americans drank their beer, popped their zoloft getting all dazed and happy as they borrowed themselves poor and pretended to be savvy investors ignoring what was going on around them, whole industries left leaving empty rusty buildings behind and it was barely noticed. In fact, there are still Americans who believe that the job sector will pick up massively in the near future even though the places we would expect to hire are gone. Recovery in the past has come from industrial output. I hardly think assembling a burger qualifies as a sound footing for any recovery creating a living wage.
This brings me to the entire point of this article. I think Americans have become so media spoon fed lazy that their conditioning has rendered the population unable to act with normal protection or survival instincts. They are unable to reason through simple math exercises, read or learn from history, digest ideas that are non middle of the road, nor even question any information presented to them as a normal state of being. This and only this could begin to explain how whole industries disappeared, corporations hoodwinked millions of Americans out of trillions of dollars and why the population thinks that debts never have to be repaid and in the bargain a fiat currency can never collapse. A state of total mass delusion and denial.
Gold? Silver? What's that? Protection? I thought protection was a condom. All kidding aside. I must be a total non-conformist in my thinking. I read. I study. I appraise. I read as many different viewpoints as I can simply because I won't risk my money and my entire future on tidbits of what could be half truths. And I have never been so shocked in my life as I was when I joined a financial forum 18 months ago and found out that not only did the average investor not know about gold and silver's role in critical protectionist investing, but they had absolutely no idea what the function of the bond market is and it's role in the future of their investments. How can that be? How can so many smart educated people not know basic economics?
As a high school graduate only and one who retired at 49, I have lost all respect for the average degree holder that apparently thinks that when they graduated college their learning days were to be put behind them as they apparently believed they knew it all. Hell, I'll admit that I still don't even know but a small percentage of the questions to ask.
The economy of the United States is messed up in direct relation to the ignorance and denial of it's citizens. May God help us all.
