Parents and teachers alike tell kids not to yield to peer pressure from other kids in the areas of drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, sex as well as others behaviors or misbehaviors citing; "Don't give in to peer pressure!". We buy what's being sold in the movies with our cash and attendance. We buy what's being pandered in other forms of media as well. We buy our vehicles, our homes, our clothes and even our food based on what we believe that those purchases will do for us or say about us and no one wants to be left out of the popular loop for fear of being judged as odd.
In business we don't stand our ground when our opinions are judged as unpopular. In areas of morality we do what feels good or draws the least amount of ground fire by those around us or those who oppose us.
In business we are often told to be team players. Don't rock the boat! Get with the program! Be one of us! Contribute to the company charity! Be at the company party! Imbibe with us to be friendly! Golf with us! Our goals are your goals! Don't make us unhappy with you! Everyone is doing it! Peer pressure.

But no none wants to drive a vehicle that makes them look unsuccessful. Why? Peer pressure!
How many of us buckle to peer pressure every single day automatically without even a thought? How many of us make fun of people who are doing or living different than us? Say, getting more education or taking a less traveled route in life? Being different.... it's not good! Peer pressure!
By and large American parents have little right to advise others to not give in to peer pressure because of the compromising position that adult lifestyles regularly have taken on rendering those words of wisdom meaningless as well as the worst sort of hypocrisy.
